About ACCESS

Appalachian State University is committed to making higher education affordable for North Carolina students. ACCESS (Appalachian Commitment to a College Education for Student Success) is a scholarship and support program that allows qualifying students to attend Appalachian debt-free.

ACCESS offers its scholars a four-year university education at Appalachian without student loans. Specifically, the ACCESS program supplements federal financial aid grants, state grants, scholarships, and other forms of financial assistance with sufficient funds to cover the cost of institutional charges (tuition, fees, room, board, and health insurance). In addition, ACCESS students have the opportunity to have a work-study job to help with personal expenses. Please visit Reducing Financial Barriers for more information about our financial assistance.

Along with the financial assistance for students, a comprehensive program of Academic and Personal Support is a part of Appalachian’s ACCESS program. ACCESS scholars benefit from highly accessible academic advising, mentoring, informational workshops, a college transition course, and a community of students who strive to support one another.

Potential ACCESS eligibility is established through the FAFSA application. Interested students must also complete the university's scholarship application. Please see Eligibility and Application for more detailed information about applying.
