Welcome
Fall 2009
Scheduling to receive tutoring is now taking place in Rm. 208 D. D. Dougherty from 9am-9pm Mon-Thursday, and from 9am-5pm on Friday. To review schedule options with a lab manager, you must present the Course Info including Course Number (i.e. MAT 1020 College Algebra), the name of the Professor, and your Banner ID. Tutoring is offered in most 1000-2000 level courses and some higher level coursework in areas where demand is traditionally high. A lab manager will assist you in completing a request form, scheduling you if possible, and providing you with info about other available resources. Please see our additional info links on the right sidebar or contact us if you have questions.
If you are having academic difficulty or just want to do your best in a course, Tutoring Services provides resources that can help. Scheduling requires that you come in person to the UTS Lab, complete a request form and work with a lab manager to review available times. If no current times work with your schedule, you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted (and possibly scheduled) via email when you can be placed.
Tutoring is free for all Appalachian students and is provided via several effective formats. Tutoring Services offers:
- Weekly Sessions (1-3 persons) in the UTS Lab and
- several Departmental Help Labs that are accessible without an appointment during summer school,
University Tutorial Services is located in room 208 D. D. Dougherty. For more information, call (828) 262-3060.

General Info for Fall 2009...
Enrolled students may begin signing up for available tutoring spots on Monday, August 31st at 9am in the UTS Lab, Rm. 208 D. D. Dougherty Hall. Tutors create schedules of available tutoring times around their own academic and personal needs. We typically do not ask or expect them to alter their posted times to meet tutee needs. Please plan on attending all (weekly) sessions to maintain your position on their schedule. If you feel you no longer need assistance, you may officially drop your spot with advance notice. If you are unsure whether or hot you really need a tutor, you may want to consider attending a departmental Help Lab for starters. These settings have posted hours and do not require you to commit to regular attendance. The Math Help Lab is operational from 2-5 pm Monday-Thursday in 303A Walker Hall. This is a drop-in resource for Math 1000-2000 level coursework. The Math 1030 Help Lab is a critical support resource for students taking Business Calculus. Your professor will encourage you to attend this setting if enrolled in Math 1030. The ACC Help Lab is also currently operational for Fall 09.
