AppAchieves Peer Mentoring is a program designed to be a dynamic support system for students by students. It is a contractual program that seeks to provide academic, personal, and social support to participants. Peer Mentors are upper-class students who have overcome or are overcoming their own personal struggles and can serve as role models in areas of academic achievement and student involvement. Peer Mentors are committed to helping fellow students succeed and can help with academic concerns, class scheduling, utilizing the library, career services, personal issues, and adjusting to the university. Each mentee meets weekly with a mentor and attends at least two student success workshops each semester. The mentees and mentors submit a journal of their progress. Students are matched with a mentor based upon major, extracurricular interests, and goals when possible.
The Peer Mentoring Program seeks to:
- Enhance the academic and personal success of the mentee.
- Connect mentees to University life in more meaningful and fulfilling ways.
- Inform mentees about university resources and support services.
- Involve upper-class student mentors in ways that enhance their leadership and communication skills.
- Enrich the college experiences of both mentors and mentees.
